What is it? A recreational bicycle ride and a 5K run in Plainview, Hale County, Texas, during the annual "Cowboy Days" celebration. Your family can watch the "Down 'Ol Broadway cattle drive (real cows) and you and family can take a stagecoach ride, climb the climbing wall, jump in the jumpy house, and savor the chuck wagon food, homemade ice cream, and other treats. A nutritious lunch, with a salad bar, is free for riders and runners (riders/runners and family only --no waiting in line with the public--$5 per non-riding or running person) is provided after the finish. First class rest stops are provided at frequent intervals. The first 250 riders/runners receive a "Hale on Wheels" T-shirt, water bottle, tote bag, and other goodies. Sag, mechanical, and medical support will be provided.
A western breakfast served by chuck wagon will be available in the starting area beginning at 7:30 A. M. for a nominal charge.
DRAWINGS FOR CASH!! PRE-REGISTERED RIDERS HAVE A CHANCE AT A DRAWING FOR A $250.00 CASH PRIZE OR TWO DRAWINGS FOR $100 EACH.
REST STOP RAFFLE!! Each rider who stops at a rest stop may place a ticket in the rest stop raffle pot for a cash prize drawing for that rest stop for $50.00. Each rest stop will have a raffle. The more rest stops visited, the more chances to win.
MEDALS FOR RUNNERS, in age and gender classes!
WHEN? September 17, 2011, with a ride start at 8:30 A. M. Runners will start 15 minutes after the bike ride starts. All routes start and finish at the Ollie Liner Center.
WHERE? The Ollie Liner Center, 2000 South Columbia, Plainview, Texas 79072. Ample parking and restrooms are available at the start and finish. Showers will be available nearby.
WHY? Enjoy the "Cowboy Days" celebration and challenge yourself as you ride/run with your friends and set a new personal best time on the FLAT, smooth, lightly travelled farm to market roads, wide shouldered highways, or interstate access roads. On some routes, there are a few, short, easy inclines (can't call them hills in West Texas, we don't have hills, just playa lakes).
REGISTRATION? Riders and Runners: By mail to Plainview Chamber of Commerce (print and mail the registration form on this site) or riders on-line at www.BikeReg.com (if more than one rider, to get the discount, enter as a team) or riders and runners at www.Active.com.
FEES? Cyclists: Pre-registrants fee is $25.00 per rider. After Sept. 13th, fee is $30.00 per rider. Family discount for two or more members of the same household: $20.00 per rider until Sept 14th. Cycle Club discount for members of the same cycle club: $20.00 per rider until Sept. 14th. No discounts after Sept.13th. Fee for runners is $20.00, either pre-registered or at the door.
LODGING? Blocks of rooms have been reserved for 9-16 at Comfort Suites, 806-293-7700 (code ETURNER) and Holiday Inn Express, 806-296-9900 (code BIKERIDE). Reserve by 9-12.
